Mother and Minor Daughter Assaulted at Magroni Police Station
Shivpuri: In the Magroni Police Station area of Shivpuri district, a tribal woman seeking justice faced brutality from the very police force that was supposed to protect her. The incident occurred when the widow, belonging to the Sahariya tribe and a resident of Kairua Bandha village in Narwar, went to the Magroni police station to file a report about a rape that took place in broad daylight on August 26, 2024.
The survivor accused Pradeep Jain, a powerful figure in Magroni, of raping her in a warehouse. Her 15-year-old daughter, who witnessed the crime, bravely collected some crucial evidence. However, when the survivor and her daughter attempted to file a report, they were met with even greater atrocities at the police station.
The female officer not only dismissed their allegations as false but also humiliated them with obscene language. Following this, the officer brutally assaulted the survivor and her daughter, threatening them with dire consequences if they reported the incident elsewhere. This all happened after the name of Pradeep Jain, an influential man with political connections, came up.
The survivor claimed that they were kept at the police station all day and later dropped off at their home at 11 PM in a police vehicle. The officer also warned them that if they pursued any further action or mentioned the businessman’s name again, they and their family would face severe consequences.
Even after returning home, the survivor received no justice. The next day, she submitted an application to the Superintendent of Police, requesting the registration of a case against Pradeep Jain and demanding strict action against the female officer. However, no action was taken.
In her pursuit of justice, the survivor eventually reached the residence of Sanjay Bechain, the convener of Sahariya Kranti, and narrated her ordeal. Sanjay Bechain promptly contacted the Superintendent of Police and informed him of the grave incident. The Superintendent assured a swift investigation and promised to take appropriate steps to ensure justice for the survivor.
This incident once again highlights the immense struggle faced by the weaker sections of the tribal community in their pursuit of justice. Instead of finding solace, they encounter police brutality. It remains to be seen what steps the administration will take in this case and whether the survivor will receive the justice she deserves. Her story exposes the deep flaws in our system, where law and order appear to favor the powerful.
Sanjay Bechain emphasized that unless strict action is taken against such incidents, the fight for justice will remain a mere pretense. Society and the administration must recognize that every citizen, regardless of caste, religion, or class, is entitled to justice.
