Mumbai [SD News Agency]: Kangana Ranaut’s highly anticipated film Emergency was initially scheduled for a theatrical release on September 6, 2024. The actress had been actively promoting the film, engaging in interviews, and participating in various promotional events. However, recent developments have led to the postponement of the release.
The delay is attributed to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), which has yet to grant clearance for the film. According to reports, the CBFC has requested additional cuts before approving the movie, citing concerns over the portrayal of sensitive content, particularly relating to the Sikh community.
Emergency, a biographical political drama in which Kangana portrays the role of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, has sparked controversy due to its depiction of historical events. The censor board is taking extra time to review the scenes to ensure they do not offend any community, which has led to the film’s release being put on hold.
Kangana Ranaut and her team have scheduled a meeting to discuss their next steps in response to the CBFC’s demands. As of now, the film has not received certification and remains under review, leaving its future release date uncertain.
In a recent statement on social media platform X, Kangana expressed her frustration, stating that the certification process for Emergency has been delayed due to numerous threats, including death threats directed at the censor board members. She mentioned that there is immense pressure to alter scenes related to Indira Gandhi’s assassination, the Punjab riots, and other critical events depicted in the film. Frustrated, she remarked, “I don’t know what else we can show.”
The uncertainty surrounding Emergency continues as the filmmakers await further developments from the CBFC.
