During the assembly session, Ladpura MLA Kalpana Devi raised the issue of constructing a larger culvert on the Northern Bypass road passing through the drainage in the Ladpura assembly constituency.
The MLA informed the assembly that a deep drainage runs through the Northern Bypass in the Ladpura assembly area. The Urban Development Trust has constructed a small culvert on the Northern Bypass to allow the drainage water to pass. Due to the small size of the culvert and the considerable height of the road, a large amount of water accumulates during the rainy season. Because the outlet is small, water overflows through the fields instead of flowing through the culvert, creating a sheet of water two feet deep on the road. This situation also results in waterlogging in the fields on the other side of the road, posing a risk of water entering the homes of local residents.
In the past two to three years, rainwater has overflowed onto the road via the fields, causing traffic disruptions and creating flood-like conditions in nearby villages. In such situations, to save lives and property, the department had to cut the road to drain the water. When I visited the site and discussed the matter with officials, they informed me that the road should be reconstructed with a larger culvert to prevent a recurrence of such situations in the future. However, the department reconstructed the bypass without enlarging the culvert, leading to the same problem again during the next rainy season.
Due to the lack of a permanent solution, the residents of the area have to face this problem repeatedly. Therefore, I request that the small culvert on the Northern Bypass in the Lad Pura assembly constituency be replaced with a larger one to provide a lasting solution.
